Term Definition
GB (Gigabytes)

A Gigabyte is a unit of measure for computer disk space or website traffic.

  • 1 byte = 1 character e.g. a letter of the alphabet or number
  • 1024 bytes = 1 kilobyte (KB)
  • 1024 kilobytes = 1 megabyte (MB)
  • 1024 megabytes = 1 gigabyte (GB) (approximately 1 billion bytes)

1 Gigabyte of data is approximately equivalent to two CD ROMs worth of images. Approximately 4 Gigabytes is equivalent to the capacity of a DVD full of photos.

GIF

This is the file format of an image i.e. the way a picture is saved on your web server or computer.

The GIF format compresses the image so it takes up less space, but it only allows for 256 colours. The format is best suited for images that contain lettering, icons and images with a small number of colours. For photographs or images with a high number of colours, the JPG format is better.

Google

A major search engine on the Internet.

Google Adwords
Google Adwords are also known as sponsored links. Companies submit text-based online advertising to Google along with a bid on particular search keywords. If a customer's search matches up with the keywords bid on, then the ads that have the highest bids on those words are displayed. Google Adwords work on the basis of no clicks, no cost, but for competitive keywords click costs can be significant. Sitepal Avatar Example from Osc Works Website
