Half price listing fees? How about no listing fees!

Published in ecommerce cartecommercedropshippingdropshipauction by oscworks |

Reduced listing fees on auction sites may seem enticing, but imagine a world with no listing fees at all and more flexibility for your store. It is possible - just open your own online store.

Sales promotions are a great way of boosting traffic and many auction websites frequently run offers on listing prices or success fees to entice more people to use their service. While these promotions can benefit a seller who takes advantage of them, an overall stumbling block for auction sites still remains: why pay half price listing fees when you can pay no listing fees at all?

No matter how beneficial things are during promotional periods, listing fees and success fees are a key part of the business model used by most auction sites today. Like buying or selling a house through auction, the agent takes a cut of your earnings. Plus the government through tax.

Shopping cart websites are ideal ways to avoid auction listing and success fees - you pay for the support, hosting, server management and infrastructure of your site but you are fully in control of how the site works. You'll generally pay for your domain name, your merchant fees if you use a merchant, your security certificate if you have one and nothing else - no fees to the provider every time you make a sale. In fact, through having your own website you can generally avoid:

  • Auction listing/insertion fees
  • Success fees (an effective commission to the sales site)
  • Listing enhancement fees
  • Re-listing fees
  • Photo loading fees
  • Restrictions on payment options you can offer your customers

If you can find a site that is search engine friendly and you are prepared to put in the work building links, developing content and growing your site, you can succeed with fewer fees. Do note that some cart providers do restrict the number of products you can offer on a package so this should also be checked before you buy - as you could pay higher package fees if your product range increases substantially otherwise.

There are no restrictions on the number of products in ozCart ecommerce websites.
