If you want to register an Australian domain name, important rules apply. During the registration process, you will be required to meet the requirements as stated below. Other domain names without the .au e.g. .com, .net, etc do not require you to meet these requirements. .COM.AU & .NET.AUPopular amongst commercial entities, it identifies your domain entity as being based in Australia, serving an Australian market. ABN/ACN/ARBN, etc is required. Individuals may obtain .au domain names by simply applying for an ABN, and under the sub heading choose entity type of 'sole trader'. You must be able to supply an ABN/ACN/ABRN or ARSN to secure your domain - register/check your ABN here, register/check your ACN here, your domain will be registered based on the criteria that most closely matches your domain.
Domain names can be 2 to 63 letters, and words can be separated by hyphens, but not spaces. .ASN.AU DOMAINSThe .asn.au domains are normally reserved for incorporated associations, political parties, trade unions, sporting and special interest clubs.
You must
supply us with the name of your incorporated association, political party, trade
union, sporting and special interest club that the domain will be registered
for. An ABN/ACN/ABRN or ARSN is not required to secure your domain, but it is
preferred if you could supply one. .ORG.AUThe .org.au domains
are normally reserved for charities and non-profit organisations, eg. clubs,
churches, community, welfare,and charity types of groups. An example is CARE
Australia who have registered the domain 'careaustralia.org.au'. Please note
that any non-commercial Australian entity is eligible.
